17 Sep Electrical equipment: why make the move now?
Breukelen | 17 September 2025
The construction site of the future runs on zero-emission equipment
The construction site of the future is clean, quiet and emission-free. While this still seemed like a pipe dream a few years ago, it is now becoming reality. Not only due to stricter European regulations and ambitious climate goals, but above all because clients are increasingly demanding sustainable machinery.
For Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and contractors, this means that investing in electric equipment is no longer an option, but a necessity.
Two important schemes
SSEB – Subsidy Scheme for Clean and Zero-Emission Construction Equipment
For whom: contractors and landlords
What: grant for the purchase or conversion of zero-emission machinery
Benefit: up to 40% of the additional costs is reimbursed
👉 Lowers the investment threshold and increases demand among OEMs.
SPUK – Specific Grant for Zero-Emission Construction Equipment
Target audience: municipalities, provinces and water authorities
What: financial support for the deployment of zero-emission machinery
Effect: tenders increasingly include zero-emission requirements
👉 Set the standard: zero-emission equipment is becoming the norm.
New: SPUK extended until 2026
The minister has confirmed that the SPUK scheme will continue, with a budget of over €230 million. This gives OEMs and contractors the certainty that funds will remain available in the coming years to accelerate electrification.
Why invest now?
Anyone making the move to electric equipment today will benefit immediately from advantages:
- Stronger position in tendering
- Lower operational costs (fuel & maintenance)
- A more pleasant working environment for drivers thanks to reduced noise and vibration
- In short: the business case is getting stronger – with or without a subsidy.
Conclusion
The time for waiting is over. The combination of regulation, customer demand and practical benefits makes electric equipment inevitable – and especially rewarding right now. Subsidies provide a valuable helping hand, but are not the decisive reason to invest.
